2009 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships
Presented by the incredible edible egg™

2009 WSSC

STACKTACULAR!

Steven Purugganan rewrote the WSSA record books by setting three new world records at the 2009 World Sport Stacking Championships. The 11-year-old from Massachusetts is also in the national media spotlight with a front-page article in The Wall Street Journal, a one-page article in Time magazine titled "Stacktacular" and one in ESPN The Magazine titled "How to Pile the Plastic."

Three new world records set at
World Sport Stacking Championships

The fast just got faster at the 2009 World Sport Stacking Championships presented by the incredible edible eggTM. Three new world records were set at this year's April event in Denver, Colorado, and they all have the name Purugganan attached to them.

Eleven-year-old Steven Purugganan from Massachusetts broke his own world record in the 3-6-3 with a time of 2.15 seconds. He teamed with his older brother Andrew in the Doubles competition hitting an amazing time of 7.58 seconds. Then Steven joined stacking forces with three teammates from USA Sport Stacking and broke the 13-second mark in the Timed 3-6-3 Relay turning in record 12.72. The latter two records were previously held by Team Germany. For complete Media Release click here.

Sport Stacking is:

  • an exciting individual and team sport where participants stack and unstack 12 specially designed, high-tech cups (SPEED STACKS) in predetermined sequences at lightning speed.
  • where stackers race against the clock in 3 competitive stacks ( 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle) and race against each other in head-to-head relays.
  • a "track meet for your hands at warp speed!"
  • a sport that promotes hand-eye coordination, ambidexterity, quickness and concentration.
  • growing by stacks and stacks; it originated in the early 1980s in southern California (known as "cup stacking"), but has been transformed into a full-fledged sport governed by the World Sport Stacking Association, formed in 2001 in Colorado.
  • practiced in more than 24,000 schools and youth organizations around the world.
