A new world record for the Timed 3-6-3 Relay is also fresh in the books set at 12.41 seconds. The previous record was 12.72 seconds. The relay team "For the Win" made up of Team USA members Lawrence Maceren, Steven Purugganan, John Harden and Luke Myers set the record at Sunday afternoon's Stack of Champions.
Taking top overall World Championships honors once again was Steven Purugganan, 12, from Longmeadow, Massachuetts with a time of 10.21 seconds. Second overall was Chase Werfel, 10, from Illinois with a time of 10.23 seconds, and third overall honors went to Lawrence Maceren, 13, from New Jersey with a time of 10.48 seconds. The overall winner is determined by the combined times of the 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle stacks.
It was a clean sweep for USA stackers this year. Team USA won the Speed Stacks International Challenge for third year in a row edging out Team Germany.
The 8th Annual 2010 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships drew 711 competitors representing 18 countries and 33 states. For two days, Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus was the site of the world's premier sport stacking event. The fastest stackers on the planet vied for record times in individual timed events and head-to-head relays.
"This was our best World Championships to date," said Mark Lingle, WSSA Director. "The caliber of stacking was amazing, with competitors hitting record-setting times. Combine that with a wonderful new venue, and our largest international field ever, and you have an incredible event."
Final results are available below.
The weekend event is being held for the first time at Magness Arena, which has proven to be a first-class venue for a world-class event.
