Championships Wrap-Up
  Event Date - April 16, 2005
Reporter: Gregg Goodman
Students in Missouri went cup crazy at the state’s 5th annual State Sport Stacking Championships on April 16th. Sixteen schools were represented with 210 stackers competing in a variety of events.
"It was a success!"
According to Greg Goodman, Tournament Director, the tournament was extremely well received. "The participants enjoyed the “Doubles” competition and are looking forward to the addition of the 3-3-3 for all age divisions next year," he said, "the times are getting faster and faster each year. A number of students are planning to attend the World Sport Stacking Championships in 2006."

Raffle kicks off competition...

This year’s event was held at Sunny Vale Middle School in Blue Springs. Opening ceremonies featured a raffle drawing of 12 cups signed by world-record holder Emily Fox. The participants were on the edge of their seats as each number was announced. Screams could be heard from the winners of each cup.

The World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) sanctioned the Missouri Sport Stacking Championships. The WSSA is the official source for rules and regulations for sport stacking. Awards at the Missouri tournament went to the top 10 stackers in each age division for the Individual 3-6-3 and Cycle stacks, to the top 3 teams in the “Doubles” and to the top four teams in the 3-6-3 and Cycle relay events. Trophies were also awarded for the top 10 overall in the Individual 3-6-3 and Cycle events. Next year the 3-3-3 for all age divisions will be added to the event.

A family affair...
It was truly a family affair said Goodman. "Families got so involved in the sport stacking relays, and the concentration of stackers to get their personal best times in the individual events was really something to see. It's truly a sport for everyone in the family from preschool students to parents and grandparents!"

Goodman expressed his appreciation to Bob Fox and the folks at Speed Stacks, Inc. for their support and resources to put on the tournament. In addition, the guidance from the WSSA was invaluable. “Pola Metz with the WSSA does a fantastic job of setting us up with the StackTrack (tournament software), StackMats and Tournament Displays, consignment products to sell, forms for registration, and quickly answers any questions we have. We are excited about the addition of new events. We are looking at possibly adding the Timed 3-6-3 Team Relay as a demonstration event next year." Goodman said. The tournament will take place on Saturday, March 11 th 2006. Details will be available at the November Missouri Association for Health Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MAHPERD) convention or contact Greg at ggoodman@bssd.net during the school year. All registration forms and information packets will be available in Word.

The Missouri schools that participated in this year's state Sport Stacking Championships included: Willaim Yates Elementary, John Nowlin Elementary, Sunny Pointe Elementary, Franklin-Smith Elementary, Daniel Young Elementary, St. John LaLande, (all from Blue Springs); Springbranch Elementary from Independence; Adrian R-III Middle School from Adrain; Hawthorn Hill Elementary from Lee's Summit; Midway Elementary from Cleveland; Yeocum Middle School and Hillcrest Elementary from Belton; and Timber Creek Elementary from Raymore; and Buder Elementary from St. Louis.
