To maintain the integrity of sport stacking and assure all rules are followed, the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) Video Verification Committee conducts an intensive video review of events where official records are on the line. The video review process is now complete for the 2006 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships, and it was a record-breaking day! All told, 42 new world records were set in the various events and divisions. Take a look here for the official listing of new world records set at the 2006 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships. A host of national and state/provincial records were also set along the way. For all WSSA World, National and State/Provincial official records click here.

This is how the WSSA Video Verification Committee works:
The Video Verification Committee validates all potential records set at WSSA sanctioned sport stacking competitions. One of the requirements of conducting a WSSA sanctioned competition is the videotaping of all event Finals. These tapes are then forwarded to the WSSA, organized, catalogued, and verification begins at a specially designed video
screening station. Providing the basis for the video review is the official WSSA Rule Book (click here to view). During the video verification process, a Stacker’s established time for that event can be ruled a "scratch" if WSSA rules and sequences are not followed properly.

Most common rule infractions at 2006 World Sport Stacking Championships
1. In the Cycle stack, Stackers were viewed not properly turning and tapping their cup(s) at the beginning of the 1-10-1 down stack. The most common mistakes made by the Stackers were: not rotating a cup 180 degrees and tapping; over rotating a cup (360 degrees) and tapping the cup; having their fingers between the cup and the StackMat; tapping the side of the cup, not the “edge” or “lip” of the cup. (Rule: Once the 1-10-1 has been up stacked, each single cup on either side of the 10 stack must be turned over 180 degrees and "tapped" once, on the stacking surface before using these cups to down stack the 10 stack into a 3-6-3. Note: These single cups may be tapped on the "edge” of the top and the "lip" of the bottom of each of these cups but not simply on the "sides" of the cups.)

2. In the 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle Stacks, Stackers were viewed having their hand in contact with a set of down stacked cups while stopping the StackMat timer. (Rule: No part of the hand(s) may be in contact with any cup(s) while stopping the Timer.)

3. In the 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle Stacks, Stackers were viewed not correcting their fumbles properly during the up stacking phase. (See “Fumbles” page 4 in the WSSA Rule Book)

4. In the 3-3-3 and 3-6-3 Stacks, Stackers were viewed down stacking two sets of cups at the same time. (Rule: Hands cannot be on two stacks simultaneously, either in the up stacking or down stacking phases except for the exceptions listed in the WSSA Rule Book page 4.)

5. In the Timed 3-6-3 Relay, Stacker’s cup(s) were viewed crossing the center line. (Rule: Infractions include….Cup(s) break the plane of the center yellow dividing line when either “stacked” or “fumbled” on the tabletop or on the floor (including cup(s) stacked “on the line”). The WSSA policy is to verify records, not change tournament results. (Note: The WSSA had to make an exception to this policy for the 2006 World Championships with the Overall 3-3-3 and Overall 3-6-3 Results. Since an Overall Event Champion is featured in the WSSA's Hall of Champions, a Stacker cannot be featured if their winning time is determined a "scratch", which was the case at the 2006 tournament. Upon completion of the video verification process, it was determined that the Overall 3-3-3 Champion this year is Colin Stangenberg with a time of 2.40. The Overall 3-6-3 Champion this year is Timo Reuhl with a time of 2.78. Both Colin and Timo are from Germany and will be great additions to the Hall of Champions, which will be updated this summer.)

There were some isolated incidents at the 2006 World Championships where videotape malfunction prohibited the verification of records. Division 7 records are also pending. If you have a question about the video verification process or want to inquire about the reasons times may have been scratched, resulting in no records, please contact Mark Lingle, WSSA Executive Director, at 303-962-5672 or send an email.
