Germany's Finest Take Back 2 Overall WSSA World RecordsSteven Purugganan (USA) had held the Individual Cycle World Record as well as the Doubles record with his brother Andrew for exactly 4 weeks. That is all the time it took for David Wolf and Timo Reuhl (Germany) to "take back" the records. The 4th annual Weidig Open was held in Butzbach, Germany on November 17th 2007. 215 of Germany's fastest stackers converged on this history setting day. The news from the US had reached the tiny town of Butzbach, and fueled the German Team for reclamation. Once they had held all 5 Overall World Records...but 2 of these had slipped away to the Purugganan boys. David Wolf performed a 7.15 second attempt in the Individual Cycle Stack finals, which beat the World Record time of 7.23. Although 0.08 seconds does not appear to be a huge margin...in Sport Stacking it can feel like an eternity. At the 2007 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships, David also broke the World Record for the Individual Cycle with a 7.25 second run, and is the Reigning World Champion. Not to be outdone by the Americans, David teamed up with Timo Reuhl to make more history at the Weidig Open. They posted a clean run of 8.03 seconds which beat the Purugganans' record setting time by 0.46 seconds. Prior to the US team, the Overall Doubles record was set by another brother team, the Stangenberg's of Germany. They are the reigning World Champions from 2007. In total there were 22 new WSSA German National records set, as well as 9 new World Records. The other 7 World records set were age division records in all 5 of the timed WSSA events. Tournament Director Burkhard Reuhl was very pleased with the event and expects even more new records to be established at the upcoming 2008 German National Championships on February 9th. |
