1. A Stacker must compete at their age division. A Stacker’s age division coincides with their age on the day of the tournament. (Note: Multiple day tournaments—the division of the Stacker is their age on the first day of the tournament.)

2. Stackers may only compete once in the Individual Timed Prelims.

3. A Stacker must up stack and down stack their cups on the surface of the StackMat® (See “Scratches” #4 for clarification).

4. Each Stacker is allowed up to 2 warm ups for and prior to each separate competition stack (3-3-3, 3-6-3, Cycle). Warm ups for each competition stack must be done before the first actual timed try and may not be done in-between subsequent tries of that same competition stack. Also, once a Stacker has started their first warm up they are then committed to complete their competitive stacks right then. In other words, you cannot warm up, decide you are not ready, leave and come back later.

5. After the Stacker has completed their warm ups the Judge will direct the Stacker to take their first “try” of that particular stack by saying, “Reset Timer and Start When Ready.” The Stacker must start with both hands flat on the yellow touch pads of the StackMat®. The Stacker may begin stacking any time after the green light of the StackMat comes on. (Note: If a “hiccup” (see definition) occurs the Judge will allow the Stacker to go again.)

6. Once the Stacker has completed the down stacking phase they must place both hands, at the same time, on the yellow touch pads of the StackMat® to stop the Timer. The Judge shall record the Stacker's time, provided the Stacker did not "scratch". (See “Scratches”) The Judge will then say, “Reset Timer and Start When Ready” indicating the Stacker may do their next try.

7. A Stacker's Individual Time shall be

a) determined by three timed “tries”. The Stacker's “best time” of the three tries is their fastest time. A Stacker’s time shall be recorded to the 1/100th of a second.

b) A Stacker’s time is first established in the Individual Timed Prelims. If a Stacker advances to the Individual Timed Finals, his/her time in the Finals supersedes their Prelim time.

c) In the event of a tie, Stackers are ranked in the same place. Subsequent places are eliminated equaling one less than the number of Stackers that are tied. (e.g. 1) two Stackers tie for third place, the places awarded are: First, Second, Third, Third, Fifth… 2) three Stackers tie for fourth, places awarded are: First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fourth, Fourth, and Seventh…) Ties are not broken but remain ties.

8. During the Individual Timed Competition all Spectators and other Stackers shall remain outside the Sport Stacking Front Court.

A Stacker "warms-up" with Super Stacks prior to competing in the Individual Prelims.
Adult Stackers compete in their Division(s) in the Individuals.

Individual Timed Competition

Tips for Judges

1. Receive from the Stacker their preprinted official time sheet.

2. Stack Warm ups Tries

3-3-3 3 3

3-6-3 3 3

Cycle 2 3

3. Once Stacker’s hands are on the touch pads of the StackMat® and the green light comes on, say “Start when ready”.

4. Look for infractions which constitute a “scratch”.

—Cups must be stacked on the surface of the StackMat®

Stacking sequence : Work from left to right or right to left. (Down stacking must follow same sequence as up

stacking.)

Hands on two stacks of cups: Make sure hands are not on two stacks at once except:

1) when a stack has been “down stacked,” then Stacker may leave one hand on the “down stacked” stack

while other hand continues to “down stack” remaining stack(s) (This includes fixing a “Toppler”)—cannot “down stack” two stacks at once or “up stack” one set and “down stack” another at same time;

2) in Cycle stack transitions:

a) from the 3-6-3 to the 6-6, hands may be on the two 3’s at the same time

b) from the 6-6 to the 1-10-1, once an attempt has been made to down stack the first 6, the second 6 may be down stacked. (NOTE: All 12 cups must be “nested” together in a down stack before proceeding into the 1-10-1.)

c) in the 1-10-1, single cups on left and right may be handled simultaneously (1-10-1: turn and “tap” cups)

Fumbles not corrected

False Stop (This includes i f a fumble occurs on “down stack” of final cups and the StackMat® is stopped.

5. Inform the Stacker that you, the Judge, will reset the timer after each try .

6. Record times to 1/100 of a second (for example: 5.43).

7. Record “Best Times” on blue (or green) copy and yellow (with Stacker’s name) sheets.

8. Include your signature, the division you are timing in, and table #.

9. Keep blue (or green) copy, give yellow to Stacker.

10. Relay Manager or Runner will pick up blue (or green) copy.
